What's in my Carry On

Updated: Jul 10, 2024

These things are always in my Carry-On Bag for Flights and Travel Days. I travel 40+ weeks of the year, so these may not feel essential on a weekend getaway. However, some of my best suggestions are for feeling ready for anything.

  • DB JOURNEY BAG I searched for a bag I had loved for a while, and this was my DB Journey Bag. It has many pockets for keeping bits and bobs, and it is big enough to fit everything but can’t get too heavy.

  • LOOP EARPLUGS My Loop earplugs have become a must on any travel day. I’ve been wearing the Engage 2s in the airport, so I can still hear all the calls and messaging. I wear my Quiet 2s on the plane to drown out all the excess noise. Is a tiny human practicing opera in the front? Nope, I can’t hear her.

  • DORE & ROSE SLEEP MASK I only bring this on longer flights and short flights. I don’t tend to sleep well, but I adore my Dore and Rose mask.

  • LIQUIDS IN A ZIPLOCK BAG Being prepared at TSA is one of the biggest things that can change how smoothly a travel day goes. I keep my Lotion, hand sanitizer, face moisturizer, face spray, and everything in a Ziplock bag. The Quartz freezer bags are perfect because they’re durable and the right size to help you breeze through security.

  • PILL CASE I bought this hoping to downsize the number of bottles I carried on the plane. I kept four days of my meds inside Tylenol PM, Gravol, Tylenol, and Imodium, which are usually what I reach for on a flight. USA Link Canada Link

  • BOOK I’ve been reading up a storm lately. I like disconnecting from technology for the duration of the flight. I’ve been reading “The Court of Thornes and Roses Series.” My Good Reads is linked here.

  • GLASSES I can’t read if I can’t see. See my super cute glasses from Warby Parker linked here.

  • PASSPORT IN PASSPORT HOLDER I don’t want to state the obvious, but a passport is important. I got this case 10 years ago when I started touring professionally, and it’s been a great spot for my passport, pen, and other travel documents. I’ve included similar options, as I can't find my original online to save my soul.

  • TRAVEL DOCUMENTS I print out all my essential documents, Visas, itineraries, and Proof of vaccinations depending on where we’re heading. I travel them in these simple, clear folders that clasp shut.

  • WATER BOTTLE I value a sturdy, normal-size water bottle that won’t collapse. While collapsible bottles are great in theory for saving space, they are brutal when moving, using, or packing them. I love my Corkcicle Sports Bottle, which is linked here.

  • IPAD, COMPUTER, AIRPODS I would never have imagined checking these, especially safety first.

  • SMALL PENCIL CASE You never know when you’ll need a pen or highlighter.

  • SAJE POCKET FARMACY Peppermint Halo, anyone? I love having my pocket pharmacy with a few of my favourite oils to grab quickly on the fly. Sometimes, I get headaches from the air pressure, and a peppermint halo is perfect. They have a few options; the one I use is linked here.

  • EXTRA CHANGE OF CLOTHES Having my neighbour spill a drink in my lap on an 8-hour flight home from the UK and sitting in the wet was horrific. No more, my friends. No more! Having some essentials in case your bag is lost is also great. Control the controlables!

  • FELLOW COFFEE MUG Carrying cardboard cups from Starbucks is so in the past. I love having the option to carry on a coffee or a tea and know I won’t be throwing it on anyone or myself for the flight. The fellow mugs are incredible at retaining heat and sealing. Plus, they come in the perfect shades to match your travel fit.

This list might seem excessive, but these are solely suggestions based on what I travel regularly because we travel so often. I hope this can be helpful to you on your travels wherever you're headed.
