Updated: Oct 22, 2024

Here are the books I read during Summer 2024, with my short reviews and recommendations. I'm doing my best not to spoil anything if you haven't read any of these, so the recommendations are a little vague in places.

How Women Rise

By Sally Helgensen & Marshall Goldsmith

If you're into psychology, business, and personal growth, How Women Rise is a must-read! The authors dive into habits many of us picked up as little girls that, while helpful back then, don’t serve us as adults. Think: Reluctance to Claim Your Achievements or The Perfection Trap—just a couple of the 12 habits they dissect. This book is packed with insights on how to flip and use these habits to move forward in business and life. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to grow!

A Court of Thorns and Roses

By Sarah J. Maas

I hesitated to jump into ACOTAR, wondering if it could live up to the hype. Spoiler: It does! If you can push through the first few chapters with significant Beauty and The Beast vibes, you’ll be hooked like the rest of us. Romance, fantasy, and a new-to-me level of obsession—it’s all there. Fair warning: It’s definitely #spicy, so buckle up if you haven’t heard of this series yet. Outside of my usual Disney Twisted Tales, this was a refreshing, addictive read.

A Court of Mist and Fury

By Sarah J. Maas

Stop everything and start this book now! A Court of Mist and Fury is hands down my favourite in the series. It’s got more romance—so much more romance—and the spice level is turned up a notch. The twists? Unbelievable. This book will leave you shookith (yes, that’s a thing) craving more. Savor every page because you won’t want it to end!

A Court of Wings and Ruin

By Sarah J. Maas

Action-packed, intense, and full of heart—this book is a rollercoaster. If you’ve stuck with the series this long, you’re in for a treat as all the characters you’ve grown attached to continue their journeys. A Court of Wings and Ruin ties up many loose ends and delivers jaw-dropping twists. It’s a longer read, but trust me, it’s worth every page.

A Court of Frost and Starlight

By Sarah J. Maas

This one’s like a warm, cozy break after the intensity of Book 3. Fans have dubbed it “Book 3.5” because it’s a softer, more relaxed look into the world, focusing on the Inner Circle’s winter holiday. It’s lighter on the action but gives you that much-needed dose of character love. Plus, it sets the stage for Book 5, so it’s still a must-read if you’re invested in the series!

A Court of Silver Flames

By Sarah J. Maas

One word: WOW. This book is scorching hot and packed with romance, spice, emotions, and character development. Following Nesta’s journey through her struggles was refreshing and relatable, primarily as it deals with inner turmoil and mental health themes. It’s a different direction from the previous books but in the best way possible. I connected with the characters like never before, and honestly, I didn’t want the series to end. It’s memorable, influential, and, let’s be honest—I’m a sucker for love stories.

The Wicked Ones: A Dark Ascension Novel

By Robin Benway

Finally, a story that gives Anastasia and Drizella their moment! The Dark Ascension series kicks off with The Wicked Ones, diving into the lives of the stepsisters from Cinderella. Robin Benway masterfully explores their personalities, relationships, and backstories—something I’ve always wanted since their tales were unfinished in the original fairytale. It’s darker than I expected, especially compared to the Disney Twisted Tales series, but I loved every minute. I was left wanting more (seriously, I need more!) and can’t wait to continue with this series. It's a must-read for Disney fans who crave more depth!
