Biloxi, Mississippi, is a Gulf Coast gem that offers a mix of laid-back beach vibes, incredible seafood, and rich cultural experiences. Whether you’re there for a weekend getaway or a more extended vacation, there’s plenty to explore. Here’s a glimpse into what we did during our visit and some suggestions to round out your trip!
Coffee First: Jacked Up Coffee Bar
We started our Biloxi adventure by stopping at Jacked Up Coffee Bar, which was the perfect choice. This small, unassuming spot serves up bold coffee and inventive drinks that pack a punch. We couldn’t resist trying the Gulf Coast Mud, a fun and flavorful twist on a classic latte. The friendly service and cozy vibe made it a great way to fuel up for the day ahead.
Local Brews: Fly Llama Brewing
Fly Llama Brewing added a craft beer highlight to our trip. Known for its welcoming atmosphere and creative beer selection, this spot was the perfect place to relax after a day of sightseeing. Their seasonal brews and quirky branding make it a must-visit for beer enthusiasts.
Seafood and Southern Flavors
Biloxi is known for its seafood, and we couldn’t leave without sampling some local favourites. While we couldn’t try every restaurant, these came highly recommended:
Mary Mahoney’s Old French House:
A historic restaurant serving classic gumbo, shrimp, and oysters in a beautiful 18th-century home.
The Reef:
This spot's beachfront location makes it perfect for enjoying po’boys and fresh seafood while watching the waves.
Half Shell Oyster House:
It is a lively spot with charbroiled oysters and other Southern favourites that are said to be a must-try.
Soaking Up the Coast
Biloxi’s coastline is one of its biggest draws. Here are a few outdoor activities we think are worth checking out:
Biloxi Beach:
Relax on the white sands or try water activities like paddleboarding and jet skiing.
Ship Island Excursions:
Take a ferry to this serene island to swim, snorkelling, and explore historic Fort Massachusetts.
Biloxi Lighthouse:
This iconic lighthouse has withstood hurricanes and offers stunning views of the Gulf. Tours are available for a closer look.
More to Explore
If you have extra time, Biloxi is packed with unique attractions:
Casinos:
Even if gambling isn’t your thing, spots like Beau Rivage and the Hard Rock Casino offer superb dining, live shows, and nightlife.
Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art:
This fascinating museum features works by local potter George Ohr and has an exterior design that is a work of art.
Downtown Biloxi:
Wander through shops, galleries, and the Biloxi Visitor Center for a dose of local charm.
